Why did my oven temperatures change automatically?

Quick answer: When Automatic Temperature Conversion is set to Auto, CookBook rewrites any oven temperature in your recipes °C, °F, or Gas Mark to match the option and fan-setting you’ve chosen. Switch it to Auto or Disabled in the pop up or Side menu ☰ → Settings → Conversions → Oven conversion if you’d rather keep temperatures exactly as written.

What the automatic temperature conversion does

  • Finds temperatures like 180 °C, 350 °F, Gas 4, or 160 °C fan inside your recipe steps.
  • Converts each one to the target scale you’ve selected (Celsius, Fahrenheit, or Gas Mark).
  • Adds or removes the fan-assisted adjustment

Examples of what you might see

  • Original 180 °C conventional → shows as 350 °F (fan) if your settings are Fahrenheit + fan.
  • Original Gas 6 → shows as 200 °C if your settings are Celsius + conventional.
  • Original 375 °F (fan) → shows as Gas 5 if your target scale is Gas Mark.

Change or disable automatic conversion

Open Side menu ☰ → Settings → Conversions → Oven conversion or open the conversion tool within a recipe by tapping on the highlighted temperature → Settings cog and choose:

  • Auto – CookBook updates temperatures as soon as you view the recipe.
  • Disabled – Temperatures stay as written until you open the conversion tool to convert a value yourself.
