How to import recipes from plain text and links

Quick answer: Copy the recipe text or link, open CookBook, tap Paste (or Add → Text), then Confirm. Review the preview and tap Save - CookBook pulls the title, servings, ingredients and steps automatically.

Import text from a website using Share (iOS & Android)


  1. Open the recipe page in your browser.
  2. Highlight and select the recipe text
  3. In the options pop out, scroll along to Share... (if available)
  4. Pick CookBook from the list of available apps. If the app isn't shown, follow the steps in these links to add CookBook to your share sheet for iOS and Android.
  5. Choose Save to CookBook (instant) or Edit recipe (tweak tags, notes, etc. before saving).



Import text & links by Copy → Paste (from anywhere)


  1. Copy the recipe text or the page link, this can be from a website, email, text message, PDF, you name it.
  2. Open CookBook app
  3. On the dashboard tap Paste in Quick Actions or tap Add (+) → Paste.
  4. Tap Confirm to let CookBook scan the content.
  5. Preview fields (title, yields, times, ingredients, instructions).
  6. Happy? Tap Save.
  7. Need to redo? Tap Delete.
  8. On the edit screen you can fine-tune anything, add images or tags, and calculate nutrition. Tap Save again to finish.
